Cedar Rock - Frank Lloyd Wright

As part of the road trip in Eastern Iowa this year, a stop to Cedar Rock was a must.

Cedar Rock is the Lowell and Agnes Walter Estate located in Quasqueton, IA. It was built on a limestone bluff overlooking the Wapsipinicon River. Construction was completed in 1950 and the Walters enjoyed the residence for 30 years. The estate was donated to the people of Iowa, through the Iowa Conservation Commission in 1982.

Nearly everything at Cedar Rock was designed or chosen by Wright. From the fabric used for the chairs, drapes and bedding to the crystal ware and pottery; Wright had a hand in the entire design. The estate also includes a red tile displaying his signature.

Photos in the below galleries include the inside and out of the residence, the boathouse and the fire circle.
